January 10, 2022
Dear FAPS Families,
Our COVID-19 testing site at Fenton High School is temporarily suspended due to the fact that the MDHHS is under a severe shortage of rapid antigen tests. The tests we ordered before break have not been shipped. When more test kits are received, we will continue to offer testing to our staff and students. This is an issue throughout the county, and the state, and unfortunately we must wait until the state is able to provide the tests we have ordered. You are able to take your child to be tested at an approved test site (i.e doctors office, Walgreens). Proof of a negative test from an approved testing site will be accepted. Tests given at home are not accepted.
As a reminder, the second semester begins on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 and masks will not be mandated. While the GCHD lifted the mandate on December 22, 2021, we chose to retain the mandate through the first semester due to a variety of reasons. Please know that starting next week, Fenton Area Public Schools will continue to strongly recommend and encourage all staff and students to wear a mask. With the new CDC, MDHHS and GCHD guidelines, masked and vaccinated staff and students stand a better chance of remaining in school. Later this week, I will be sending the new COVID-19 guidelines that we will follow beginning on January 18, 2022. We apologize for any inconvenience suspending our testing site due to a shortage of tests may cause and remain optimistic that the state will deliver the tests soon.
Dr. Adam Hartley
